‘Superbad’ star Emma Stone on cutthroat Hollywood, wine, sugar, and heroin
Gorgeous “Superbad” star Emma Stone may look perfect, but she admits to a few bad habits.
“Heroin, the sugar, and the wine—nothing too crazy,” she jokes in the August issue of Vanity Fair.
Stone says you need a few good crutches when you’re battling for roles in her cutthroat industry. Like after she lost the role of Claire Bennet on NBC’s “Heros” to Hayden Panettiere.

“I could hear that, in the other room, a girl had just gone in and they were saying, ‘You are our pick. On a scale of 1 to 10 you’re an 11,’” she said. “I went home and just had this meltdown.”
Even with that blow, Stone, who dropped out of high school to move to Hollywood, got her big break quicker than most. “I did ‘Superbad’ in what would’ve been my senior year,” she said. “I was playing a senior, and had I graduated, I would’ve missed that opportunity, and had I missed that opportunity, I wouldn’t be here right now.”

The “Superbad” star now has to contend with wily photographers who know the starlet is on the verge of A-list stardom.
“(The paparazzo) stands up while I’m walking to my car and is like, ‘Hey, Emma! Listen, I’m going to delete these pics. Here’s my card,” Stone said of a recent pap incident. “‘If you ever go to the beach with your friends or walk out of your house in your pajamas, call me.’”

Stone, confused, refused his card.
“He’s like, ‘But I’m deleting these pictures, see?’ These guys try to strike up a deal with you so you feel like they’re your friend. I didn’t even know that was a thing—that people would call them.”
Oh it is a thing, Emma. It is a thing.
And of course, in Hollywood, with fame comes the pressure to be thin. “I’m definitely more conscious of it as I’ve gotten older,” Stone said. To stay in shape, the actress enjoys rock-climbs at Chelsea Piers in New York City—but don’t get her started about doing weight training or Pilates. That “brings out anger” in her.
Even with an enviable figure, Stone was modest about her Vanity Fair cover shoot, “I usually wear a one-piece,” she demurred.
The August issue of Vanity Fair will be available in New York and L.A. on Thursday, June 30, and nationally and on the iPad on Tuesday, July 5.
