Kings Island Opens For 2011 Season

x Kings Island opened for the first time this season Saturday, but two attractions won’t be part of the fun.

Son of Beast has been plagued with problems since it opened, and the roller coaster will sit idle for a second season in a row.

The Department of Agriculture said the park did not submit an application to operate Son of Beast, so no one may ride it.

The park’s newest attraction, Windseeker, will not open this weekend due to weather-related testing delays.

Officials said the recent storms and rain have delayed operations to fully test the assembled ride, which stands more than 300 feet tall and will swing riders at about 35 mph.

However, most past favorite roller coasters are back and will be ready for action, such as The Beast, Faceoff, Vortex and Diamondback.

Charlie Brown’s Pirate Adventure is a new children’s attraction, and Dinosaurs Alive will take children back to the Land Before Time beginning in May.

Kings Island has also added a new country music show and made improvements to Coney Mall.

The park will open Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., but will close Sunday before reopening again May 6.
